Meet Jane Shepard, the newest employee of the Biting Fly and Tick Control Section.

Jane has been hired as an OPS employee to work at PHEREC for the summer season.  Her duties include mosquito trap maintenance and colony work with Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes albopictus.

Jane has a very broad background of previous employment.  She worked for 17 years as an employee of the U. S. Postal Service in  Panama City.  She has also worked at a newspaper as the editor of the Women’s Pages and has experience as a darkroom photographer, performing b/w and color processing.

Recently, Jane was an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the Florida State Parks System.  Jane assisted at St. Andrews State Park for about a year.  Part of Jane’s AmeriCorps volunteer work included clearing trees and tarping roofs post-Dennis in Milton and Pace, in the Florida Panhandle and manning a FEMA center in Mississippi post-Katrina.

Jane is an avid duplicate bridge and scrabble player and has earned the title “Captain Never-Go-Out” with her sailboat.  Jane duffs about the golf course regularly.

Jane, Welcome to PHEREC!
