Mary Ann Olson Retires after 18 Years of State Service

Mary Ann Olson was hired October 1981 as an Agriculture Technician II at the West Florida Arthropod Research Laboratory [WFARL], as PHEREC was called then.  From 1981 to 1985 Mary Ann was a technician in the Biting Fly Control Section.   Mary Ann assisted in field and laboratory research on the effects of insecticides on stable flies (Stomoxys calcitrans). Her primary responsibilities included performing pesticide assays and    rearing stable flies for research.  In 1985 Mary Ann was promoted to Biological Scientist I.  The Biting Fly Control Section was eliminated by State action in 1987.  From 1987 to 1993 the Section was called the "Pesticide Environmental Effects Section."    In April 1993, Mary Ann was transferred to work in the newly created Biting Fly and Tick Control Section.   Her broad expertise in biology helped the Section tremendously. She took great personal interest in many of the research projects and had an excellent command of using building materials when specialized equipment was needed. Mary Ann retired April 30, 1999, as a Biological Scientist, after 18 years of continuous service. We wish her well and good health as she enjoys her well-deserved retirement.
